The Real Housewives of New Jersey... ugh!

Oh dear Bravo is gracing us with another gem

Now let me just start off my rant by saying that I live in South Jersey which if you are from this area at all then you should know that North and South Jersey might as well be different states. Everytime anyone does a show about New Jersey they ALWAYS feature people from the North and it's completely annoying and frustrating cause everyone thinks that we are all a bunch of "eyy oh how yous doin?!" kind of people who wear long acrylic nails, big teased hair sprayed down with Aqua Net and have plastic on our sofas.

Here's the breakdown of the characters from People.com

Jacqueline Laurita: A former cosmetologist, she is now a stay-at-home mom, but still loves to pamper herself. She has a teenage daughter from her previous marriage and a 6-year-old son with her husband Chris, who owns wholesale apparel businesses and is brother to Caroline and Dina.
Teresa Giudice: Born and raised in New Jersey, her husband Joe owns a successful construction company. Together they have three young daughters, who take up much of her time. A friend of Dina and Caroline, she also loves to shop, get spa treatments and spend time at her beach house on the Jersey Shore.
Danielle Staub: “You either love me or you hate me, there is no in between,” says the single mom of two daughters. She prides herself as one of the first female American Express Black card members in New Jersey. She is also active in her local parish and regularly attends mass. She and Jacqueline are friends.
Dina Manzo: Founder of the nonprofit Project Ladybug, which helps children with cancer, she’s also an interior designer, an event planner, mother and best friends with her sister Caroline. Her husband Tommy works with his brother (Caroline’s husband) at their family’s catering business.
Caroline Manzo: She’s a mother of three and own a real estate firm and a line of children’s accessories. Described as a “feisty spitfire,” she’s Dina’s sister and is on the board of Project Ladybug. She’s married to Albert Manzo, brother of Dina’s husband Tommy. Dina and Caroline’s brother is Jacqueline’s husband Chris.

Jeez I can just imagine what kind of season this is gonna be. Watch this clip here where Danielle gets ready for a date with a guy she met online named "Gucci Model".

For the record I like living in South Jersey - we're close to the city (Philadelphia not New York), get all four seasons, we don't have to worry about severe earthquakes, tornados, or hurricanes, very close to the beach (Sea Isle City, Cape May and Avalon definitely not Belmawr!) and we get to take the plastic off our couches!

  1. Over from SITS.
I can totally relate. I'm from the South. From a state where people think we don't wear shoes, attend school past the 8th grade, and marry our cousins....
I live in a town without a single stoplight, no elevator, and a county affectionately called "Booger" by some of the very people who live here... (they probably DID marry cousins..)
Anyhoo - just thought I'd give a little support.
And your blog is totally cute!

  3. I so agree with you! People always stereotype Jersey with the people from the North. I'm originally from Central Jersey. I lived on the shore but I hate admitting that because automatically think of fist pumpers which all migrate from the NORTH in the summer. Grrrr.

    PS- I love sea isle!

  4. Lol @ getting to take the plastic off your couches.... The only place I've ever been on the East Coast is Philadelphia(I almost died trying to cross the street to get to the H&M in Center City; like LITERALLY almost got ran over..No H&M's in Texas-sigh-)..Gosh I need to expand my horizons.....

  5. I'm not sure how I feel able the housewives all being related. I always wonder on the other cities if the housewives knew eachother before. Clearly, they did on NJ, but I'm not sure how that's going to play out... I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'm hoping its good!

  6. You know... I adore the HWOC the first season, but then we had New York and that was ok, then Atlanta and that was a train wreck and then about that time when OC came back - they were also now train wrecks. I'm finding it harder and harder to watch any of them...

Plus the OC people now give us all a bad name I think, so I understand your vibe about North/South Jersey... I feel the same way about OC now.

  7. i completely agree...i hate the jersey stereotypes we all automatically receive. i'm from central jersey, like 10 minutes from the beach and i hate telling people where i live because they automatically think of all those northerner's who come down seasonally and give the whole state a bad rep. =/
